All about Palaka- The Hawaiian Denim

We are loving the gorgeous array of Palaka colors coming out of Hawaii lately- they are trending, but also rooted in Hawaiian culture.

The plantation workers used to wear this beautiful Hawaiian Plaid, Palaka, and it became iconic work wear to allow workers to have a breathable cotton, and this specific plaid.

Today you can find Palaka in a Yarn-dyed wovens and as a cotton print. The colors are modern and stunning! This works great as a picnic blanket, apparel, and more. Many makers are using it for bags, hair accessories, and we've seen fashions at Merrie Monarch using this amazing fabric! This is heavier than the Cotton poplins that are also very popular for tropical wear.

We love seeing this in shop - and feeling it, it's super soft! It's a joy to package it up and ship it out to makers everywhere!
